Art Therapy

"It is the function of art to carry us beyond speech to experience."    -Joseph Campbell

What is Art Therapy? Art Therapy is:

"an established mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight..."

as described by the American Art Therapy Association.

And Jou Tsung Hwa writes: "We often say 'a picture is worth a thousand words.'
And today scientists study how a person's visual mind is even more complex and powerful than their verbal mind. In many kinds of learning, words are merely a start for a person to build a mental picture for themselves. Using pictures directly to work with is very important in developing our whole selves."

You do not need to be artistic to participate. Just a willingness to play, scribble, imagine, experiment with different art and collage materials, and get involved in the process of it. What it looks like does not matter. Allow yourself to release expectations of a finished product and enjoy the sensation of the creative process.

Guided Imagery/Hypnotherapy

Allow me to demystify hypnotherapy and explain briefly how it works...

If you are speaking to a crowd of 100 people, hoping to convince them to vote for your outstanding idea, how many people need to be convinced at a minimum for your proposal to pass? Would 10-20 be enough? Likely not.

With that in mind, our conscious mind- the rational thinking part of our brain represents only 10-20% of our brain power.  So when you decide you want to make a positive change in your life, and you encounter difficulty, that is because only 10-20% of your brain is in agreement. The subconscious part may have other ideas, associations, and defenses that keep you stuck and prevent change from happening. Hypnotherapy helps to bring your whole being into congruence with your goal so that you can effectively make desired changes in your life!

Hypnosis is a natural state we enter in and out of throughout the day. Have you ever driven to work, and upon arrival, hardly remember getting there? Or have you been so focused watching a movie or reading a book that you feel like you are there, feeling the feelings of the characters, or that you are so focused that don't really hear the voices in the room anymore? It is a natural state of being, it's just that your focus becomes narrowed and body becomes more relaxed, yet you remain in complete control and awareness.

Guided Imagery
Guided imagery is a form of hypnotherapy which is essentially art therapy in your mind.  Imagery offers tremendous healing power.  Whatever our brain "sees", our physiology reacts to as "real." Pictures can convey feelings and complex messages in their display, speaking to us from the subconscious and assisting us in bringing into consciousness a greater understanding of ourselves and the dynamics and patterns active in our lives. An important component of healing is feeling understood and validated; images offer an opportunity to facilitate this deeper understanding.

Neuro-Emotional Technique

Emotions such as fear, anger, grief, and many others can negatively affect us long after the original event that caused them. When our body fails to “let go” of these emotions we can find ourselves with unexplained aversions, self-sabotaging behaviors, phobias, and many chronic physical problems!

Using an approach called Neuro Emotional Technique (NET), I can help you identify and  release old stuck emotional patterns. NET is safe, effective and a natural way to help resolve long-standing health problems that have an emotional component.

Neuro Emotional Technique is based on a proven combination of the latest scientific research and centuries old techniques used in Eastern healing. By acknowledging the relationship between the body’s emotional health and physical health, appreciative people around the world enjoy better health and well-being.

NET can be a very effective treatment tool for helping you become congruent with your desired goals and increase your awareness of self-limiting or sabotaging thoughts and behaviors. NET helps release you from these old negative patterns so that you can now be free to make new choices.

Additionally, NET helps reduce the "charge" of common emotional triggers, decreasing emotional reactivity and encouraging neutrality, so you can deal with "what is" more effectively. Clients regularly describe feeling"lighter," "better,"" more centered," and "as if a heavy weight has been lifted off" them immediately after experiencing NET.

As previously described, NET can be very effective in helping to identify what your body may be communicating to you through its physical symptoms, and in neutralizing the emotional aspect of those chronic health problems and physical symptoms, i.e. stress headaches, low back pain, "pains in the neck", etc.
NET is not a replacement for medical care.

Please visit the N.E.T website for a more detailed explanation of this revolutionary and effective mind-body technique.
